GOD IS THE FATHER OF SPIRITS MAN IS THE FATHER OF FLESH
Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather BE IN SUBJECTION UNTO THE FATHER OF SPIRITS, AND LIVE?
In the Old Testament, God was not known as a father. He was only a circumstantial God with diverse names based on the situation he created to reveal Himself to a particular person at a particular time. Consequently, many have seen God manifest in their lives in a particular situation at a particular time that made them give  God names according to the situation H created for the revelation. These names are as follows. Jehovah shama, Jehovah Nissi,Jehovah Elohim, Jehovah Adonai etc.
God was not known as a father in the Old Testament because God can only beget spirit born by the incorruptible word.
1PE 1:23 BEING BORN AGAIN, NOT OF CORRUPTIBLE SEED, BUT OF INCORRUPTIBLE, BY THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH LIVETH AND ABIDETH FOR EVER.
Abraham was known as a father according to flesh to the Jews because they were all natural men limited only to the knowledge of life in the flesh by the bondage of the law.
But when Christ came , He began to prepare their minds about the way to identified with God as a son. It is through faith in Christ that sonship is received
JOHN 1:12 BUT AS MANY AS RECEIVED HIM, TO THEM GAVE HE POWER TO BECOME THE SONS OF GOD, EVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE ON HIS NAME.
God is God to everyone even to the devil but God is not a father to everyone. God is the father of those who are born of the spirit by the incorruptible word through faith in Christ. You cannot be the sons of a God who is a spirit until you are born of the spirit by the word and become a spirit.
JOHN 3: 6 THAT WHICH IS BORN OF THE FLESH IS FLESH; AND THAT WHICH IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT IS SPIRIT.
A man who is not born of the spirit cannot be led by the spirit because he is spiritually dead therefore cannot be a son of God even though God is  God. To everyone since He is the creator of the universe.
 In the Old Testament,  God was not a father even to those who walked with him because they were not born again.
ROMANS 8: 14 FOR AS MANY AS ARE LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THEY ARE THE SONS OF GOD.
A man who is not born of the spirit cannot have access to the father by the Holy Spirit because he is not one with the Lord. The Holy Spirit has to be in you to lead you. He comes in because you are born of the spirit to dwell in your spirit by the word of God
1CO 6:17 BUT HE THAT IS JOINED UNTO THE LORD IS ONE SPIRIT.
EPH 2:18 FOR THROUGH HIM WE BOTH HAVE ACCESS BY ONE SPIRIT UNTO THE FATHER .
Nobody can worship God in the spirit if he is spiritually dead. WORSHIP IS A SPIRIT TO SPIRIT EVENT. TRUE WORSHIP IS A FATHER AND SON AFFAIR. And we are the generation that God qualified for that relationship when you are born of the spirit.
JOHN 4: 23 BUT THE HOUR COMETH, AND NOW IS, WHEN THE TRUE WORSHIPPERS SHALL WORSHIP THE FATHER IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH: FOR THE FATHER SEEKETH SUCH TO WORSHIP HIM. 24 GOD IS A SPIRIT: AND THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH.
PHIL 3:3 FOR WE ARE THE CIRCUMCISION, WHICH WORSHIP GOD IN THE SPIRIT, AND REJOICE IN CHRIST JESUS, AND HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLES

2COR 3: 17 NOW THE LORD IS THAT SPIRIT: AND WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS LIBERTY.
For you to call God your father, you have to accept Jesus Christ and be born of the spirit because God is a spirit.

ON THE CROSS On the cross both sin and man died but Christ did not die. He was made sin for the body of sin to die in man and not in God. As God He cannot die, But as man He took on the body of sin on the cross for sin to die through his death.
