YOU HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN
I grew up in a religious family. After passing through the normal religious protocols then I had
the first confession of my sins many years ago before receiving the Holy
Communion. When I received Jesus Christ into my life I had another version of
confession of my sins. This time did not have to go to any clergy but I could
confess my sins in the house and before any prayer meeting or fellowship
because it would be a hindrance to the move of the spirit or physical resources
that God wants to lavish on us in the fellowship.
In the first stage it was just a religious activity that
guarantees God’s forgiveness and also qualifies you to be standing in faith to
receive Holy Communion, But in second stage there were many scriptures that
were used to buttress the performance.
PROV 28:13 ¶ HE
THAT COVERETH HIS SINS SHALL NOT PROSPER: BUT WHOSO CONFESSETH AND FORSAKETH
THEM SHALL HAVE MERCY.
PSAM 32 : 5 I
ACKNOWLEDGED MY SIN UNTO THEE, AND MINE INIQUITY HAVE I NOT HID. I SAID, I WILL
CONFESS MY TRANSGRESSIONS UNTO THE LORD; AND THOU FORGAVEST THE INIQUITY OF MY
SIN. SELAH.
1 JOHN 1: 9 IF WE
CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND TO
CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. 10 IF WE SAY THAT WE HAVE NOT SINNED, WE
MAKE HIM A LIAR, AND HIS WORD IS NOT IN US.
ROM 6: 23 FOR THE
WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

But through the knowledge of the finished works of Christ, I
have known that many of these scriptures had expired. Some were not referring
to us at all. They were for the Jews.
1. Sin was the transgression of the Jewish
law.

Right from the days of the early
apostles it had been a big challenge to let go many religious terms. The Jew
could not believe that sins could be forgiven by any other way except the ways
stipulated by the laws of Moses. That was why when Jesus forgave sins, they
were flabbergasted.
LUK 5:21 AND THE SCRIBES AND THE PHARISEES BEGAN TO REASON, SAYING, WHO
IS THIS WHICH SPEAKETH BLASPHEMIES? WHO CAN FORGIVE SINS, BUT GOD ALONE?
LU 7:49 AND THEY THAT SAT AT MEAT WITH HIM BEGAN TO SAY WITHIN
THEMSELVES, WHO IS THIS THAT FORGIVETH SINS ALSO
Peter was caught between to seas
until Paul rebuked him when he saw that he was abstained from the gentle believers
even after God had used him mightily in the house of Cornelius Act 10.
Because of this many Jews
believes that sin is tradition or condition that would never go. Many writers
like John began to bring sin to be a thing that would be forgiven by faith. The
religion of confession of sin came in.
Many began to call some behaviors
as sin. But if Christ was made sin, then He was made everything that could be
called sin because sin was sin. Many confess sin because they have forgotten
whom they confessed the day they receive eternal life. If you confess sin then
you are still ignorant of the meaning of redemption that we received in Christ.(
Rom 10: 9-10)
In the Old Testament sin was
distinguished. But in the New Testament
many could not distinguish between sin and the works of the flesh. That is why
they call it sin. To know that sin is dead or alive, try and between sin and
the works of the flesh in consonance with the finished works of Christ.
(GAL 5: 19-21) NOW THE WORKS OF THE FLESH ARE MANIFEST, WHICH ARE
THESE; ADULTERY, FORNICATION, UNCLEANNESS, LASCIVIOUSNESS, 20 IDOLATRY,
WITCHCRAFT, HATRED, VARIANCE, EMULATIONS, WRATH, STRIFE, SEDITIONS, HERESIES,
21 ENVYINGS, MURDERS, DRUNKENNESS, REVELLINGS, AND SUCH LIKE: OF THE WHICH I
TELL YOU BEFORE, AS I HAVE ALSO TOLD YOU IN TIME PAST, THAT THEY WHICH DO SUCH
THINGS SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
JAMES 3: 14 BUT IF YE HAVE BITTER ENVYING AND STRIFE IN YOUR HEARTS,
GLORY NOT, AND LIE NOT AGAINST THE TRUTH.
Confession does not bring the
forgiveness of sin. sin could only be forgiven by the blood of Jesus. The best understanding
could be to confess our faults with the view for prayer assistance not as
offence of sin against God.
JAS 5:16 CONFESS YOUR FAULTS ONE TO ANOTHER, AND PRAY ONE FOR ANOTHER,
THAT YE MAY BE HEALED. THE EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN AVAILETH
MUCH.
To understand this more you have to
differentiate confession of faults and confession of sin. Differentiate between
the works of the flesh and sin with the New Testament spectacles. No one could
be talking about the works of the flesh and confession of faults if sin is not
dead because all were under sin.
There is no more sin to forgive
because forgiveness took place once by the blood of Jesus Christ.
1COR 1:30 BUT OF HIM ARE YE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO OF GOD IS MADE UNTO US
WISDOM, AND RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND SANCTIFICATION, AND REDEMPTION:
EPH 1:7 IN WHOM WE HAVE
REDEMPTION THROUGH HIS BLOOD, THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, ACCORDING TO THE RICHES
OF HIS GRACE;
HEB 9:12 NEITHER BY THE BLOOD OF GOATS AND CALVES, BUT BY HIS OWN BLOOD
HE ENTERED IN ONCE INTO THE HOLY PLACE, HAVING OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION FOR
US.
HEB 9:15 ¶ AND FOR THIS CAUSE HE IS THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW TESTAMENT,
THAT BY MEANS OF DEATH, FOR THE REDEMPTION OF THE TRANSGRESSIONS THAT WERE
UNDER THE FIRST TESTAMENT, THEY WHICH ARE CALLED MIGHT RECEIVE THE PROMISE OF
ETERNAL INHERITANCE.
Forgiveness does not come by
faith otherwise Abraham could have redeemed man. We do not receive forgiveness
of sin the day we accept Jesus Christ but we receive eternal life. God forgave
the whole world on the cross for them to receive eternal life through faith in
Christ.
TITUS 2: 11 ¶ FOR THE GRACE OF GOD THAT BRINGETH SALVATION HATH
APPEARED TO ALL MEN
The grace has been given to all
men but only those who received Jesus Christ have eternal life.
Make that choice today because
God loves you.
